Leadership isn't necessarily a trait people are born with. It’s a skill that’s developed and nurtured.

Besides improving staff retention and engagement, according to the Journal of Applied Psychology, employees who complete leadership training displayed:

  • A 20% increase in overall job performance.
  • 28% increase in showing leadership behaviors.
  • Those who they manage showed an 8% increase in performance.
  • 25% increase in organizational outcomes.

Leadership training is not only beneficial for those who receive it; it’s good for a company’s bottom line.

The chamber's Leadership program has been cultivating leaders for over 35 years, and we are proud to have over 700 local leaders graduate from the program. Our Junior Leadership program has been going strong for over 20 years, and we’ve even seen a few alumni go on to complete our senior Leadership program.

The legacy of each class doesn’t end at graduation, their impact stays on in the community through their class projects. In the past six class years, leadership classes have raised and invested over $103,000 into the community through these projects such as playground equipment at Oscar Frazier Park, sunscreen dispensers at Hilton Head Island parks, Matthew's Oak in Shelter Cove Towne Centre, "Follow the Fiddlers" in Old Town Bluffton, signage on Daufuskie Island, and many more.

In the past month, we welcomed 55 class members to the Leadership and Junior Leadership programs, and we can’t wait to see how they grow over the next year, and the contribution they'll make in the Lowcountry.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Bill
