The Lowcountry is on another “best of” list and this time it’s for golf. South Carolina has been noted as one of the top five golf locations in the world, and we’re in good company. We're the only location listed from the U.S.

Even if you’re not a golfer, you benefit from those who are. Golf has an annual $3.3 billion dollar impact on the state’s economy. The RBC Heritage presented by Boeing contributes $102 million to the economy each year, not to mention the $50 million that has been donated to local charities by the Heritage Classic Foundation since 1987.

Golf is a business, just like any other sport. Keeping Hilton Head Island and our region top-of-mind as a premier golf location translates into the quality of life benefits we all enjoy like our beloved festivals, parks, leisure trails, and more. Funding for those amenities comes from hospitality and accommodations taxes paid by visitors.

Duane Parrish, head of South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism may have said it best in our last Power Hour Tele-Town Hall when it comes to the importance of golf: “People know about Coca-Cola, that doesn’t mean Coke stops marketing its product.” The same is true for golf. It's an industry that supports thousands of jobs. People who play here often want to live here.

Whether it’s the GOLF Channel coverage of the recent Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club or our beloved RBC Heritage, which will show the beauty of Hilton Head Island to millions of golf fans around the globe … Golf is good for the Lowcountry!

Make it a great week!

Sincerely,

Bill
