In 1985, New Coke was introduced to the world, the first CD’s hit the market and Michael Jordan was named the NBA’s rookie of the year.  A gallon of gas was $1.09, the average cost of a new home was $89,330 and Boris Becker won Wimbledon at the ripe old age of 17.

Life was definitely different in 1985, but one thing remains the same…the need for leadership. Your chamber launched its leadership program in our community 38 years ago. The program has been described as a “master’s degree” in the Lowcountry, and over 700 leaders have gone through the program since its inception. Not only do alumni make life-long connections, they also learn skills that help them give back to their community and advance their careers.

In the last seven years alone, their class projects have invested over $128,000 into needs and projects throughout our community. Whether it’s the shrimp boat in the playground in Bluffton, or the informational boards at Mitchelville that tell the story of freedom, class projects are sprinkled throughout the Lowcountry and stand as a legacy to the contributions of the program.

Applications for the 2023-2024 class are now open. If you’d like to be part of the leadership program, click here. Feel free to recommend others you think would benefit as well.

Make it a great week!

Sincerely,
Bill

PS - Congratulations to the Hilton Head Island St. Patrick's Day Parade organizing committee, volunteers, participants, sheriff's deputies, and spectators for a fantastic concert on Saturday and parade on Sunday. The rain didn't keep us away!
