• Ben Harris, the executive chef at the Sea Pines Resort, appeared on NBC’s Today Show 3rd Hour on July 26 to prepare the Quarterdeck’s fried street corn elote fingers and local charcoal roasted shrimp. The Third Hour hosts dined at the Quarterdeck during their live recording in May, and invited Chef Harris to New York. Click here for the recipes.

 

  • The Technical College of the Lowcountry is once again offering free tuition and fees for its fall 2022 semester, made possible by a combination of federal, state and private funding sources.

  • Congratulations to the University of South Carolina-Beaufort (USCB) for being accepted as a NCAA-Division II member of the Peach Belt Conference. The Sand Sharks have 11 men’s and women’s sports that will participate, and will also add basketball to its program.

  • PGA TOUR announced that THE CJ CUP will be played at the Congaree Golf Club October 17-23, and the tournament name will be changed to THE CJ CUP in South Carolina. The tournament was launched as Korea’s first official PGA TOUR tournament in 2017.

  • Hilton Head Regional Healthcare staff donated over 7,500 servings of cereal for its 2022 Healthy Over Hungry® Cereal Drive. The cereal was given to the Sandalwood Community Food Pantry and St. Stephen's Food Bank.

  • The Hilton Head Island Airport revealed its new logo, and was recently awarded $12 million from the state for the $53 million terminal upgrade and expansion, which is expected to be completed by 2025.

 

  • The Hilton Head Public Service District earned its designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program.

  • Ever think about what happens to all those oyster shells after they leave our dinner plates? Thanks to local restaurants and The Outside Foundation, they get recycled into reefs to grow more oysters and help keep our local waterways healthy. A group of volunteers recently placed 700 bags of recycled oyster shells off the 18th fairway of Harbour Town Golf Links. 

 

  • Following its successful Minority Small Business Program last year with 11 award recipients, SCORE SC Lowcountry is partnering again with Wells Fargo and Truist banks to provide the 2022 MSBP to our Lowcountry community.  Minority business owners in Beaufort, Jasper, Colleton, and Hampton Counties can apply for an award up to $2,500 through October.
