About Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn

The Coastal Discovery Museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate located at Honey Horn, a 70-acre historic site on Hilton Head Island. Founded in 1985, the museum's mission is to inspire people to care for the Lowcountry and deepen their understanding of the region's history, culture, art, and fragile coastal environment.

The museum offers exhibitions, tours, workshops, and seasonal programs for all ages. Indoors, permanent and rotating exhibitions highlight regional stories and broader themes. The galleries feature curated shows by local, national, and international artists working in a wide range of media and styles.

Outdoors, visitors can walk shaded trails beneath centuries-old live oaks, explore the beauty of nature in the camellia and heritage gardens, and observe our wildlife in the maritime forest, butterfly habitat, salt marsh, and dragonfly pond. The Farmers Market, held every Tuesday from 9 am to 1 pm, offers fresh produce, baked goods, food, drinks, art and crafts.

A large, covered pavilion and terrace overlooking Jarvis Creek provide the perfect venue for weddings, community gatherings, and private events.
Admission to the museum and grounds is free. Donations are always welcome.
