Project Connect

Back to School: Take Part! August means back to school for students in the Lowcountry. It also means back to business for chamber’s Business Education Partnership Committee. By creating and supporting partnerships between local businesses and schools, BEP helps enhance the quality of education throughout the Lowcountry and so can you.

Teachers spend hundreds of dollars each year of their own funds for classroom supplies. Project Connect is a community-wide program that helps lessen that burden. By connecting community businesses and individuals with teachers and their wish lists for classroom supplies, the program gives everyone an opportunity to support education.

From dictionaries to art supplies, weekly “wish lists” and “wishes granted” are published in the Island Packet newspaper and available at the chamber. Since its inception over $35,000 has been used to purchase needed school supplies, thanks to this successful program.

There are a lot of great things happening in our schools, from one-on-one mentoring to value programs such as the chamber’s Golden Apple Program, offering area teachers and staff access to perks and discounts generously donated by member businesses.

Thanks to participating chamber members, from Main Street Café to Palmetto Electric Cooperative and others, teachers are able to use benefit cards for purchasing goods and services like car repairs, financial services, spa and salon services, restaurant meals and more.
