It’s back to school in Beaufort County this week, and for the first time since August 2019, nearly all students will be back in the classroom.

Did you know that teachers spend over $500 out of their own pocket every year for classroom needs? There are so many ways that you can help support our teachers and students, and our Project Connect program is just one way we are helping to meet the need.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Hilton Head Walmart, our Business Education Partnership Committee will be distributing gift cards to teachers to help cover the cost of school supplies for students and classrooms. You can help these dollars go further by donating to the fund. Click here to learn more.

We also sat down with Beaufort County Schools Superintendent Dr. Frank Rodriguez in our 5 Questions Podcast to talk about all things back to school, masking up and COVID-19 precautions, after-school programs, community involvement, and more. Click here to listen, or subscribe to the Chamber Channel wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaking of masking up in school, we talked with SCDHEC’s state epidemiologist Dr. Jane Kelly and the Hilton Head Regional Healthcare CEO Jeremy Clark on the local impact of the Delta COVID-19 strain. Check out the video below, or click here to listen to the full conversation. Mark your calendar … we’ll also be back with our Power Hour Tele-Town Halls on September 1.

There will be school buses back on the roads this week. A reminder to be patient and be kind when you are commuting, and whenever you are out and about.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Bill Miles,
