Recreation Leaders assist with the supervision and implementation of Summer Camp. Recreation Leaders assist and/or supervise with the implementation of recreation programming, summer camp and other programs planned and coordinated by the Preschool and Youth Department.



Must have the ability to demonstrate and/or show competency in the following areas:
Supervising youth and presenting positive role modeling through all interactions with program participants
Be reliable and dependable
Work a flexible schedule to meet program staffing/planning needs
Exercise mature judgment and sound decision making and
Be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

All behaviors comply with the Employee Manual and Preschool & Youth Programs Handbook.
Provide leadership and guidance to the program participants through the ability to motivate, lead, guide and teach children in an afterschool or camp setting.
Provide program participants with a positive environment by conducting daily recreational activities such as sports, games, dance, exercise, media, arts & crafts and other activities.
Implement positive discipline techniques and group management
Maintain the highest standards of health and safety by keep the program participants best interest in mind at all times.
Observe safety precautions; correct minor safety problems; conduct activities in a safe manner maintain discipline at indoor and outdoor recreation areas including; pool, playground, gym, classrooms, field, etc.
Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, program participants and parents.
Be flexible and a team player, working in collaboration with your team.
Always be customer service oriented and adhere to all Island Recreation Center standards.
Maintain a clean and orderly facility.
Wear assigned uniform including staff shirt and name badge with whistle.
Attend all required staff meetings and functions.
Represent the Island Recreation Center as a role model of honest, caring, respect and responsibility.

Other Duties and Functions
Participate in setting up the programs, daily activities, and overall operations of the program.
Maintain inventory control on all games and equipment.
Take part in creating programs including arts and crafts, games, sports, environmental activities, and special events.
Keep a record of attendance of all program participants at all times.
Promptly record all injury and incidents and report them to your immediate supervisor.
Make suggestions for new activities, programs and improvements. Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events.
Work a varied work schedule that best fits the needs of the programs. This may include mornings, afternoons, nights, and weekends.
Communicate directly with parents sharing both positive behaviors and discipline issues.


Monday - Friday, 40 hours a week, May 30 - August 18, training the Saturday before camp starts

Salary: $7.25-$10

Start Date: May 27 - Training Day
