An exciting career opportunity exists for a Mechanic I at Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority located in Beaufort, S.C.  The Mechanic I is responsible for performing preventive maintenance and repairs on all fleet equipment including tractors, trailers, generators, excavators, pumps as well as all fleet vehicles. The Mechanic I assists the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor in maintaining all required records of maintenance work and repair information, orders parts and helps maintain inventory. ABOUTBJWSA:   BJWSA is a regional water and sewer utility providing services to the southeastern coastal South Carolina counties of Beaufort and Jasper. This region includes the historic City of Beaufort, Town of Bluffton and resort community of Hilton Head Island, and is centrally located between Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA. As part of the South Carolina Low Country, this area exudes traditional southern hospitality and is surrounded by boating, hunting, golfing, fishing, beaches, and great people. We treat and deliver an average of 20 million gallons of drinking water each day to over 50,000 retail customers. We also supply drinking water to wholesale customers who resell or redistribute our water to their residents. Overall, we serve over 171,000 Low Country residents with drinking water. We collect, treat, and recycle over 7 million gallons of treated wastewater (about 30,000 sewer accounts) safely back into the environment daily. 

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a vocational/technical school program in auto/truck mechanics, and a minimum of two years’ experience dealing with auto and truck repair and maintenance, small engines and hydraulics or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must have the ability to read and write and perform basic arithmetic calculations. Must possess ability to communicate, both orally and in writing.
Requires computer experience in Microsoft Office Products with the ability to use software used by the Authority.
Must possess or obtain within one year of hire certification in at least two mechanical areas by Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in a core area such as brakes, engines, preventive maintenance, or tires.
Must possess a valid driver’s license, and must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.
