HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, trouble shooting and preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning units or systems both commercial and residential aboard MCAS Beaufort. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This worker connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source; installs air and water filters in completed installation, injects small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds proper gas to build up prescribed operating pressure. This mechanic observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation, tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap-and-water solution, wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands, replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units, may install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging from fifteen to fifty tons cooling capacity in hangers and warehouses. Duties may include, but not limited to the following: • Responds to emergencies and/or service calls, drives to site troubleshoots malfunctioning systems/equipment to determine the nature of the problem. • Locates and diagnoses problems, assesses extent of repairs and describes solutions and associated costs to the customer. Provides a description of diagnosed problems to customer in terms that can be understood with options, as possible. • Possesses the ability to work independently with little or no supervision • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment to prevent equipment failure by cleaning air handling systems and reheat coils, monitoring and calibrating air handling systems and replacing filters, motors, fans, belts, etc. on systems. Repairs, replaces and adjusts vents and duct work. May clean air ducts to maximize efficiency and improve indoor air quality. • Performs repairs of complete systems to include repairing, calibrating or replacing controls, switches, thermostats, transformers, gauges, wiring fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, piping and other functional components of the system. • Performs other related service repairs to include repair of electrical malfunctions and installation and repair of equipment, accessories, pipes, fittings, and fixtures. • Checks condensation drain line to ensure that it is free of debris and draining properly. Treats and/or clears clogged drain lines. • Contacts supervisor or dispatch to discuss any problems on the job, communicate call completion or order any parts that may be necessary. • Adheres to all safety standards Physical Demands - May lift or push up to 50 lbs. For extended periods of time may be required to stand, walk, squat, kneel, sit, bend, reach and climb. Must be able to work at various heights and in manholes. Work Environment - Work areas may include all areas of MCAS Beaufort. • Experience Requirements - Minimum of five (5) years of experience
• Educational Qualifications - A high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must possess valid HVAC EPA certification level 3
