Memory Matters Job Description Development Director Job Summary: Development Director manages Memory Matters’ fund-development plan, including, but not limited to, all grants, corporate contributions (cash and in-kind), individual gifts and special events. S/he is responsible for effectively deploying the plan, in close concert with the Executive Director and Board of Job Description: Development Director will have significant and relevant experience working with nonprofit community care providers. S/he will have a quantifiable record of success in donor recruitment and retention, effectively engaging with executive staff, Board volunteers and leading community volunteers. Responsibilities:  Collaborate with Executive Director and Board to create and execute annual Development Plan as part of the agency’s overall Strategic Plan Manage portfolio of major gift donors (retention), with attendant deployment of program to grow individual/corporate and collective gift value. Develop dynamic prospect portfolio (recruitment), with attendant deployment of program to introduce pipeline of new donors to the program. Work directly with Board and staff volunteers to present high-value special events that maximize donors’ dollars through sharp control over expenses. Identify relevant grant opportunities, draft grant solicitations and collaborate with Executive Director on timely and effective submissions for retained grants and new prospects. Coordinate annual direct-mail appeal, in collaboration with Executive Director and Board. Monitor development activities monthly, preparing report for Executive Director and Board. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required; CFRE preferred. Minimum 5 years’ experience with quantifiable record in major gifts, donor retention, special events and grant awards. Successful experience with current donor cultivation and cold-call donor identification and solicitation. Must be energetic, professional and adhere to highest ethical standards for fund raising. Must have strong interpersonal skills, be sympathetic to donor needs, and be a gifted communicator. Report to: Executive Director Compensation: Commensurate with experience Employment Level: Full time (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends) Projected Start Date: January, 2017; Actual Hire Date Negotiable Memory Matters Mission Statement: “Memory Matters is a local not-for-profit center of excellence which improves the quality of life for persons with dementia and their families, providing resources, support, respite and adult day services with compassion and dignity.” Overview and Opportunity: Over almost two decades, Memory Matters, as an organization, has achieved unparalleled growth and admiration for its visionary, cutting edge approach in providing stimulating, compassionate and loving support for dementia patients and their families. Memory Matters’ programming initiatives provide adult day services to participants from both the Hilton Head Island and Bluffton communities on a roughly equal basis. The organization also provides support and referrals for families and caregivers of dementia patients, as well as community education and training. Over the years, the organization’s growth has expanded to its 2016 budgetary level approaching $ 1,000,000. Currently, there is a staff of eight, all of whom are cross-trained to provide comprehensive attention to both participants and operations. Each brings a passionate commitment to the organization and to its mission. As the organization approaches its 20th anniversary in 2017, we seek to build upon our past innovations which have enhanced the lives of our participants and their families. The outgrowth of our successful endeavors has created within the entire community an excellent reputation as the “go to” resource for positive dementia care. That reputation is not just local, but also regional, and indeed, national. Memory Matters has been widely recognized for its innovative methods designed to enhance the lives of dementia patients and their families.
