Monday Mornings

June 27th, 2011

Attitude check…it’s Monday morning. Are you glad to be where you are at this moment?  Did you hit the ground running and set your priorities for the day and week ahead?  Are you off to a strong start to your work week or are you sipping that cup of coffee slowly as you head into your day wondering what’s next?

A recent medical university study found that there is a significant increase in blood pressure for many workers on Monday morning.  It’s literally the peak day of the week for heart attacks and researchers have showed a direct correlation to stress levels at work and this sobering statistic.

I’m one of those people that actually looks forward to Monday mornings.  I get a charge out of what’s going to unfold during the week and how your chamber team is going to make things happen.  I enjoy communicating and connecting with you through the Monday Morning Briefing and hearing your feedback and ideas.

While every single Monday morning doesn’t always go as planned, over the years I’ve found that Mondays probably have more to do with attitude and preparation than anything else.   It also comes down to the fact that as a chamber team, we are a group of people that truly love what we do.  We are an organization that goes into every Monday morning with 100% of our time and resources dedicated to one thing: increasing the success, knowledge and networks of our members in the business community.  It’s a pretty great way to start the day.

Your week is what you make it.  Have a great one!

Onward!

Last week marked the end of two years of searching, collaboration and quite frankly, good old-fashioned hard work culminating in the announcement of the sponsorship for the PGA Tour event that will now be known locally as The RBC Heritage presented by Boeing.

It wasn’t easy…usually goals this worthwhile aren’t.  It serves as a prime example of what the power of collaboration and teamwork are all about.  From the Heritage Classic Foundation to the Governor’s office to the Town of Hilton Head Island, Beaufort County, Town of Bluffton, volunteers and residents, everyone worked together to ensure that the event would continue for years to come.  It was a powerful lesson and a great reflection of the fact that anything is possible when a common goal receives laser-like focus and diligent effort.

One chapter closes and another one opens, and as a community, there will always be challenges and obstacles to overcome.  Last week shows that as a community, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish and that audacious goals are worth the effort whether it’s launching a new business venture, building a sales force, striving to be the best at what we do as individuals, or accomplishing a community-wide task; we have what it takes.

Onward!

P.S. – Our very own star chef Orchid Paulmeier of One Hot Mama’s once again wowed the judges last night on week 3 of Food Network Star.  Judges lauded not just her food but her signature warmth and star quality.  Let’s show Orchid and the Food Network that the entire community is rooting for one of our own.
